Belts and dans: how progression works

Every victory in Three Seals moves you along a path of belts. The path has a clear beginning and a clear black belt, and then it keeps going.

The nine belts

White, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown, red and black. Your fighter wears your current belt in every duel, so your progress is always visible.

  • White from the start
  • Yellow at 40 points
  • Orange at 100
  • Green at 180
  • Blue at 280
  • Purple at 400
  • Brown at 540
  • Red at 700
  • Black at 900

Points never go down

Wins earn belt points. Losses never take any away. This is deliberate: a bad evening against Huma should not undo a good week. It also means that every duel is worth playing, because the worst outcome is learning something.

Streaks pay

Winning streaks earn bonus points, so steady play is rewarded more than a lucky win here and there.

After black: dans

Black is not the last step. Every 250 points after black is another dan, and there is no highest dan. At the same time, the shadow masters begin, each one faster than the last.

A finite path to an endless goal.

Our Belts page explains what each belt means in the night temple, and lets you slide your fighter from white to black to see it change.
